I had three separate instances of stalling with my 690. The first was a nearly broken wire on my aftermarket kickstand cutout switch causing random stalling while riding. The second was a cracked ceramic insulator on my sparkplug causing it to ground out instead of the spark reaching the cylinder.
The plan was for four of us – Bruce Gillies, Vic Anderson, Kevin Rose, and me – to ride the entire White Rim Trail in one day. We would be traveling light, with all of us riding KTM 690 Enduro Rs.
Not only is it economical filling the 3.8 gallon tank, but it’s enough range to hang with larger adventure bikes. The 390 Adventure has enough power to keep up with bigger bikes too, although I do wish it were smoother on the highway. Comparing it to other single-cylinder models, KTM 690 Enduro R is smoother at 75mph with its dual balancer
This fuel tank can be used only with KTM 690 Enduro model years 2019-23. In case you’d need fuel tank for previous models of KTM 690 (i.e.2008-18), then please order HERE . KTM 690 auxiliary tank kit 2019-23 features and benefits
UPDATE [17.3.2015] After installing the RR racks and Perun moto rear rack the carrying capacity is greatly improved. I can now mount 4 FuelFriend cans very conveniently. 2 at each side on the RR racks and 2 on the rear rack. The extension plate comes in handy if you want to mount two on the rear rack.
So I’ve narrowed it down to the KTM 690 Enduro R, Husqvarna 701 Enduro and the AJP PR7. With the KTM and Husqvarna, I’d look to get the Rade Garage Rally kit with the additional tank under the seat. With the AJP it sounds like I’d need to change the suspension give the Sachs issues.
This can also happen on the highway or when down shifting into a stop sign except the RPMs will drop to 0 and the bike will stall. Other times when accelerating the bike will start chugging dramatically as if it is losing power or running out of gas. Stalling is certainly the most common of these symptoms.
The tank is stock; I was no more bothered by the autonomy than by the absence of a fuel gauge on the 2018 model. I usually try to fuel up every 150k and before hitting the trails. What I love about the 690: The torque. So much torque, so fun. Highway ride and passing are really comfortable.
The V-Strom would certainly do the job well, but I've owned one, and it's a pretty dull bike. If I were in your position, I would sell the KTM and pick up a used Triumph Tiger 800 XC. It's a better bike in every way than the V-Strom, except for fuel range (it still does well in that regard, the Strom just has exceptional range).
Mine gets insanely good fuel mileage with all kinds of mods, like 50+ mpg in Enduro setup. If you put SM kit on it and ride it 100mph all day, it drops to the lower 40s, like 42-45mpg. Link to comment
